The polar bear may be a mighty hunter but in this photo, asleep he is captured in one of those rare moments in nature.

This polar bear picture is digitized onto the cabochon with a mother-of-pearl opal glaze, that seems to glow from behind the transparent picture making the bear appear luminous on the cabochon.

Pendant cameostone is framed with an antiqued, gold plated, scrolled design and holds a 30mm X 40mm cabochon. Measures 1 1/2" wide by 2 1/4" high. Included are bail and cable necklace chain with lobster claw fastener. Choose length of either 18" or 24". Metals in frame and chain are gold plated brass.

• Ursus maritimus is the scientific name for the polar bear, which means 'Sea Bear' in Greek.

• It is estimated that 25,000 to 40,000 polar bears can be found throughout the ice-covered waters of the Arctic region.

• They prefer to remain out on the sea ice all year if possible. The sea ice provides a platform from which polar bears can hunt. As the ice retreats north during the summer months, polar bears travel with the ice floes and continue to hunt seals their predominate food.
