• Bald Eagles are monogamous and remain faithful to their mate until death. Females lay one to three eggs annually in the spring time, and the incubation period is approximately 35 days. • The Bald Eagle was officially declared the National Emblem of the United States by Congress in 1782. • In the early 1700s there were approximately 500,000 eagles in our country. By the 1960's there were less than 500 pairs left making them an endangered species. This population decline was caused by humans. The Bald Eagle is presently protected by the Endangered Species Act of 1973. |
