This lovely silver penguin brooch comes in two versions, penguin family (shown) and penguin lovers (pass mouse over image to view). The pictures of penguins used on the cameostones are actual photographs. An ivory, opal glaze on the background glows up through the semi-transparent penguin pictures creating an almost holographic effect. Colors seem to turn metallic and the background appears much like opal when tilted in the light.

The penguin photo cameostone is framed with an antiqued silver plate frame. The top has a laser cut/bali bead enhancement. Dangling beneath are Arctic colored Czech crystals in blue, clear and smoky AB , glass pearls and gem stones of Hemalyke and a mother or pearl heart.

A 1 1/4 " long, silver-plated pin back makes attachment easy. Measures aprx. 1 3/4" X 3". Matching earrings below were designed to be worn with these brooches and make an unusual penguin collectible gift set.

• Penguins can swim at speeds up to 25 mph. and spend as much as 75% of their time in the water. Some species can reach depths of 1000 ' or more and stay submerged for up to 25 minutes.

• Penguins are often attacked by sea leopards, killer whales, fur seals, seal lions and sharks. The leopard seal is the greatest threat. It hides and waits in the water just under the ice and catches the penguins when they jump in to hunt for food. The penguins are an important part of the food chain in their habitat.

• Penguins are covered with waterproof feathers. The feathers are stiff, short and grow close together. These feathers grow over a thick coat of fluffy down. Penguins have a thick layer of blubber, or fat right under their skin. This blubber keeps them warm or insulated from the cold snow and icy waters they swim in.
