Snares Penguins live on Snares Island on the southern coast of New Zealand. They are the only penguins that roost in low trees making their nest in a forest or in shaded areas.
Their face, cheeks, throat and back are black. They have a heavy, thick orange bill and all black cheek feathers with a yellow and white feathered crest on the top of their heads. Their eyes are reddish-brown. Believe it or not they have pink feet.They weigh about 6 to 7 pounds and stand about 25 inches tall. Both parents take care of the egg, but the male takes care of the chick when it hatches while the female searches for krill, squid and fish.
