01 Sumatran Tiger Gold Earrings | |||
These earrings are very unusual handcrafted jewelry featuring green-eyed pictures of tigers. The button cameostones are treated with a mother-of-pearl opal glaze that shines up through the translucent tiger pictures creating an almost holographic or metallic affect when the cream colored stone catches the light. A perfect tiger collectible item. The button cabochons are in rich antiqued gold rope frames. Stone is 13mm x 20mm. Photo will be aprx. 1/2" around and is flipped to make a right and left. Measures aprx. 1 inch X 2 inches. Available in three styles: fishhook without bead (as shown on left), pierced post or clip-on with dangling glass tiger stripped bead (shown on right). Fishhooks, pierced posts & nuts are from surgical steel with easy grip rubber discs on nuts. Clip-ons have comfort backings. Interesting facts about Sumatran tigers |
• The Sumatran tiger is the smallest tiger, one of the few cats who actually likes water and is a good swimmer helped by it's webbed toes. It likes to take a dip when possible to cool off and will swim across a river after prey. • The coat on the Sumatran tiger is a darker orange color than other tigers. The stripes and coloring are not only in the fur but the skin beneath. No two tigers have the same strip pattern. • The greatest population of the Sumatran Tiger is found in parks and reserves of Indonesia. The population is about 400 and while protected they are still poached for pelts and body parts used as medicines. Habitat destruction is also leading to their demise. If no effective measures are taken to protect the Sumatran Tiger, there is a possibility it will be extinct in ten years. |
